Transferring in Credits and/or Experience
There are several ways to document prior learning as it applies to a Dunwoody Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree, diploma, or certificate program.

Transferring Credits to Dunwoody
Students who have completed technical or general education credits successfully (grades of C or better) at other accredited post-secondary institutions within the last seven (7) years may request that those credits be evaluated for transfer.  Students should contact the Transfer Specialist who will do a preliminary evaluation and contact you with the result.

Transfer credits will be documented on a Dunwoody transcript if following steps are complete:

  1. Obtain a Transfer Credit Research form from the Student Records Office or website.
  2. Pay a non-refundable Transfer Credit Fee of $25.
  3. Request that the institution(s) previously attended send official transcripts to the Student Records Office, Dunwoody College of Technology, 818 Dunwoody Blvd., Minneapolis, MN 55403.
  4. Be an accepted student.

Transferred credits will be entered on the student’s Dunwoody transcript and will have no effect on GPA.  Total technical/occupational credits transferred in a student’s major field cannot exceed 40% of those required for the major.

Students who earned an Associate’s degree within the last seven (7) years could be eligible for a “block transfer” of all Arts & Sciences credits so long as core requirements for the program of choice have been met.  Students should see the Transfer Specialist in the Student Records Office for more information.
Financial Aid Implications of Transferred Credits – Credits transferred in to satisfy Arts & Sciences or technical requirements will not impact completion rate.

Holds
Holds may be applied to your Academic Record for two reasons:
Academic holds occur when your GPA does not meet minimum standards. Being placed on academic hold signifies that academic progress has been unsatisfactory. Satisfactory progress needs to be demonstrated in order to move from one quarter to the next and to graduate. Please see Student Records about any questions or concerns about academic holds.

Financial holds or account holds stem from unpaid balances on your account. These holds include but are not limited to: tuition/fees, overdue library books, and bookstore charges. Holds can impact your ability to register for future classes, obtain transcripts, and related tasks. Please see Accounting, Financial Aid, or Student Services about any questions or concerns regarding financial/account holds. Payment plans are also available.

Change of Curriculum
Do you want to "change your major"? For example, do you wish to switch from a diploma track to a degree track? Do you wish to switch from Automotive to Architecture? Keep in mind that such changes may require extra coursework to be completed, additional credits earned/purchased, and new prerequisites applied to the registration process. For these types of changes, be sure to complete a Change of Curriculum form and submit it to Student Records.

Change of Address/Contact Info/Name Change
Have you moved? Do you have a new phone number or personal e-mail account? We want to be able to stay in contact with you before, during, and after your time at Dunwoody. Please complete a Change of Address form as often as needed. If you have legally changed your name, please complete a Change of Name form so that we may accurately update your academic record.

Immunization Record
Minnesota Law (M.S. 135A. 14) requires that all students born after 1956 and enrolled in a public or private post-secondary school in Minnesota be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, measles, mumps, and rubella, allowing for certain specified exemptions. The Immunization Record form is designed to provide the school with the information required by the law and will be available for review by the Minnesota Department of Health and the local community health board. This form is required of all incoming students. Information must be provided in order to stay enrolled, register for classes, and to graduate.

Application for Re-Admission
If you have left Dunwoody or are thinking about it, please know that there is a process for re-admission. You will need to complete an Application for Re-Admission form - available in Student Records office. Additionally, there is a $10 readmission application fee. Acceptance of re-admission is dependent upon departmental approval. You may be required to meet with the Department Director of the program for which you are re-applying.

Consent to Release Information
(to parents, employers, and other 3rd parties)
As graduation approaches and you begin seeking employment, prospective employers might request information about your academic performance at Dunwoody. This information can include your grades, grade point average, attendance records, etc. Information related to your performance at Dunwoody is protected by Federal privacy laws and cannot be released without your prior written consent.

The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) gives students certain rights with respect to their education record, such as: the right to inspect and review records within 45 days of the request, the right to amend misleading or inaccurate information within the educational record, and the right to consent to the disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in the education record. This last item, the right to consent, is vigorously upheld at Dunwoody except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without student consent (see Student Handbook for details). If you wish for your education/academic record information to be seen by anyone (parents, employers, etc) you must provide Dunwoody with written consent. You must also revoke such requests in writing if you no longer wish to give such consent to 3rd parties. Conversely, if you do not want Dunwoody to provide even basic directory information about you, we need this non-consent statement in writing.
