Adjunct Instructor, Interior Design

Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for an Adjunct Instructor to teach in its Interior Design Program.  This instructor would be accountable for teaching the following courses:

IDSN234 – Introduction to CS4
This class is an introduction to creating images and boards utilizing the Adobe CS4 Suite with emphasis on Photoshop & InDesign.  The principles of color corrections, layout, and typeface are applied.
Class Dates: 12/7/09 – 3/12/10
Class Times: 1:30 to 2:25 p.m.
Class Days: Monday through Friday

IDSN324 – Presentation Skills 2
A variety of techniques are utilized to successfully combine the principles of color, layout, and visual communication with the skills of digital design, hand rendering, and sketching to produce successful and professional presentation drawings, boards, models, and documents.
Class Dates: 12/7/09 – 3/12/10
Class Times: 8:30 to 9:20 a.m.
Class Days: Monday through Friday

MAJOR OBJECTIVE

The Program provides training for entry level careers in the interior design profession.  The curriculum covers skills and knowledge necessary for one to design functional and aesthetically pleasing environments to enhance the quality of life while protecting the comfort, health, safety and welfare of the public. Courses teach design theory, material types, building codes, manual and computer aided drafting to prepare design solutions for residential and commercial projects. The Program develops designer skills for interacting with carpenters, electricians, architects, heating/ cooling craftsmen and other building professionals.  Estimating costs and coordinating the project implementation are part of the curriculum agenda.  Graduates completing the six-quarter Interior Design Program will be highly qualified and prepared for employment in residential and commercial professions.  All graduates will obtain basic work experience through a 6th Quarter Internship.  Completion of 6 quarter of the prescribed credit hour mix of Interior Design Technical and General Education courses are required for A.A.S. Degree award.  Graduates of the A.A.S. Degree requirements can continue studies toward the 12 quarter BS Degree Program.

  • Apply technology to identify and solve interior design problems for clients
  • Consider designs across the client’s application lifespan, and involve the associated cultural and diversity needs of individuals
  • Experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary technical groups in the College and within the commercial and residential communities
  • Apply an entrepreneurial spirit to identify and resolve future needs of the Interior Design Program
  • Encourage motivation and excellence in design students
  • Create a classroom environment focused on active learning in which all students are welcomed and encouraged to participate
  • Respond to various student learning styles by utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and assessment practices
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Work independently, as well as with colleagues, through the application of problem-solving skills
  • Work and interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, educational partners, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities, socio-economic levels, and educational experiences
  • Contribute to the College's appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding
  • Provide input, analysis and maintenance of department budgets and manage associated financial stewardship and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Incumbent will be assigned to and report to the Design Technology Center Director
  • Teach college level interior design courses including computer aided drafting, graphics, basic design, studio, and professional practice
  • Promote and apply the College's values for creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking
  • Participate in curriculum development that is responsive to a diverse community, students' needs and interests, and changing technologies in contemporary learning environments
  • Engage in department, directorate and college initiatives, as well as in the shared administration of the College
  • Collaborate with colleagues in discussions of creating and observing department policies, course materials, teaching methodologies and assessment methods
  • Maintain competency in teaching and the discipline’s curriculum through professional development activities
  • Teach a flexible schedule, potentially including evening and/or weekend assignments
  • Perform other support duties as related to functions of the College

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Interior Design or closely related field; (pending degrees must be verified by a letter from the granting institution)
  • Teaching and/or professional experience (preferably in interior design)
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite
  • Knowledge of an automated design & drafting software such as AutoCAD or REVIT

Adjunct Instructor, Understanding Liability & Contracts

Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for an Adjunct Instructor to teach in its Land Surveying Technician Program.  This instructor would be accountable for teaching the following courses:

CTEC214 – Understanding Liability and Contracts
Your instruction in this class will include topics such as liability and financial risk, federal laws and regulations, contract bonds, insurance coverage, underwriting factors, and alternative forms of dispute - resolution. Emphasis will be placed on application of these concepts to the engineering and construction industry. Independent study required.
Class Dates: 12/10/09 – 1/28/10
Class Times: 5:30pm to 9:00pm
Class Days: Thursday

MAJOR OBJECTIVE
This position is responsible for initiating the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement; creating an environment in which students can accomplish the learning objectives of the course.  The adjunct position requires an instructor that can work well with high needs students.  The result should be students’ ability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethics, and use of proper tools to meet industry and professional business standards.

Program Manager, Physical Therapist Assistant

MAJOR OBJECTIVE
To provide administration and the continued development of a new Physical Therapist Assistant Program as well as ensure quality and integrity of the curriculum offered, and to provide strong leadership and direction to the faculty. Initiate the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement. Create an environment in which students can accomplish the learning objectives of the course of instruction.  Design and develop new curriculum. This program has currently been granted candidacy status for accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Responsibilities surrounding the process of accreditation will also be a major objective of this position.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supervises and evaluates faculty in Physical Therapist Assistant Program in addition to providing support, coaching, and guidance to faculty members.

  • Directs scheduling, budgeting and curriculum health improvements in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Minnesota licensure as Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • At least 5 years of documented clinical experience, including work experience in the Physical Therapist/ Physical Therapist Assistant relationship.
  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience.
  • Experience in administration.
  • Experience in educational theory and methodology (curricular design, development, implementation, and evaluation).
  • Experience in instructional design and methodology.
  • Experience in student evaluation and outcomes assessment.
