Founded in 1914, Dunwoody College of Technology is a private, not-for-profit, endowed institution of higher education. Located in the Lowry Hill neighborhood next to downtown Minneapolis, Dunwoody College offers bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in a variety of technical fields. Dunwoody College of Technology currently has two faculty position available.

Adjunct Instructor - Cost Management

Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for an Adjunct Instructor within its construction programs. This instructor will be responsible for teaching classes and maintaining, updating, designing and/or developing new curriculum in line with current industry standards and practices.

Dunwoody’s construction programs provide students the essential information required to start a career in a related construction field. Themes prevalent throughout the programs include industry standards and best practices, documentation, and the value of time, money and resources. Graduates of the construction programs will be suited to be leaders in the construction industry.

The successful candidate will have the ability to disseminate the technical information required to the students along with applying the candidate’s own industry experiences to reinforce the prevalent theories in the program.

Course and section details are below:

CSUP250 - Construction Cost Management
Introduction to construction cost management with an emphasis on elements of procurement management, effective cost management, project budgets, conceptual estimating, life cycle costs, safety, labor productivity, and value engineering analysis.

Section 90 will run Tuesday or Thursday evenings (depending on instructor) 3/19/12 – 6/8/12 from 5 to 9 pm on Dunwoody’s main campus.

MAJOR OBJECTIVE:
This position is responsible for initiating the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement; creating an environment in which students can accomplish the learning competencies of the course of instruction; maintaining, updating, designing and developing new curriculum. The result should be students’ abilities to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethics, and use of proper tools to meet industry and professional business standards.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain curriculum on campus network.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Facilitates learning activities so that students learn the principles, theory, skills, and work ethic necessary to become proficient for entry level positions.
  • Creates a positive learning environment.
  • Monitors, assesses and advises learners on technical and academic progress and performance.
    • Provide midterm and final grades by deadline.
    • Records daily course attendance.
    • Record individual activity grades consistently.
  • Uses current academic and industry practices in assigned courses of instruction.
  • Maintains, updates, designs and/or develops new curriculum within assigned course of instruction.
  • Assists in the recruitment and placement of learners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors in Construction Management, Architecture (or equivalent) required with a Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years professional work experience in related field.
  • 1-3 years professional teaching experience in related field preferred.
  • Membership in related trade organizations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and motivated independently.
  • Ability to express self clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use online resources to support the management and delivery of instruction.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to operate personal computer, audio visual equipment and other office equipment.
  • Flexibility with work related activities not occurring during scheduled course hours.

  • These courses will be taught during Spring 2012 quarter from 3/19/12 through 6/8/12.
  • Split teaching agreements are available where an OSHA authorized trainer is available for the 30 hour requirement only.
  • Course dates and times within the Spring 2012 quarter are suggestive and subject to future employee and college agreements.
  • The two sections are individual positions; applicants may have interest in one or both sections.

CSUP121 Safety Management 4 credits
Examine principles of construction safety and indentify health hazards using OSHA 1926 Construction Industry Regulations and MNOSHA Laws and Rules. Emphasis is on OSHA 30-hour Construction standards, to develop strategies which help prevent accidents on construction worksites. Awareness education for asbestos, mold and lead.
60 lecture hours.
Section 01 will run Fridays from 7:30am to 12:30pm on Dunwoody’s main campus.
Section 90 will run Thursdays from 5 to 10 pm on Dunwoody’s main campus.

  • Completion OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 courses (OSHA authorized trainer) required.
    • Must have verifiable current card.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • 1-3 years professional teaching experience in related field preferred.
  • Membership in related trade organizations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and motivated independently.
  • Ability to express self clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use online resources to support the management and delivery of instruction.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
