The Career
Electrical Construction and Maintenance graduates install, maintain and repair building electrical systems and are employed by electrical contractors, private plants, mining companies, electrical wholesalers and manufacturers of electrical equipment. They also install and maintain electro-mechanical, security and other electrical equipment. Many eventually establish their own businesses. Estimating and sales offer other opportunities for employment.

The Program
The Electrical Construction and Maintenance program provides students with entry-level employment skills and knowledge in electrical fundamentals, motor and control, power generation and distribution, programmable controllers and industrial controls. Residential, commercial and industrial wiring techniques are covered and students gain a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Students enrolling in this program should have good math skills and reasoning ability. Upon completion of this course, entry-level graduates may be employed as apprentice maintenance electricians, apprentice construction electricians, panel builders, low-voltage installers and estimators.

Program Length
Graduates of this six-quarter program earn a diploma (104 credits) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree (118 credits), depending on the Arts and Sciences course work completed. Students with previous training or experience in the occupation may arrange to take selected courses in the program.
