The Career
Dunwoody graduates find meaningful positions with architectural
and engineering firms as CADD (Computer-Aided Drafting & Design)
technicians and with construction companies as estimators and project
managers. Others are employed by suppliers as product representatives,
coordinating with architects and builders to provide the industry with the
finest construction products. Dunwoody graduates have advanced to senior
positions in the region’s largest architectural and construction firms and
have also started independent businesses offering CADD drafting services,
residential design or building contracting.
The Program
The objective of the program is to prepare students for entry-level
employment in a design- or construction-related field. Students learn building
and construction technology, how to analyze project requirements and
how to produce the drawings and specifications needed to describe those
requirements. Projects selected for training reflect true industry conditions
and teach students practical applications of construction theory. Through
membership in the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), students
connect with mentors representing every aspect of the construction industry.
As in the industry, students learn to work in project teams.
Program Length
Graduates of this six-quarter program earn an Associate of Applied Science
(A.A.S.) degree. Students with previous training or experience in the
occupation may arrange to take selected courses in the program.
