Architectural Drafting & Estimating
Program Fact Sheet/Courses (pdf file) | e-mail program
The Architectural Drafting & Estimating (ARCH) program prepares students for careers as drafters, estimators, project managers or technicians. Program graduates are prepared to serve in the private sector at architecture, engineering and construction companies or for the public sector in local or state governments. Students study building and construction technology, learning how to analyze project requirements and produce the documentation necessary to describe the construction.
Using design, construction, and engineering theory, students work in project teams advised by industry mentors. The student teams generate drawings, specifications, estimates and schedules for construction projects that comply with industry regulations. Projects are selected that reflect real industry conditions so that students learn to think critically about design and technical solutions. Each term concludes with the creation of documented project and a formal presentation to faculty and guests from industry. The technical education is enhanced by Arts & Sciences courses through study of oral and written communications; math and science; social and behavioral studies; and the arts and humanities. Students have the option to travel, exploring the architecture and construction of other environments.
