Dunwoody students to compete at SkillsUSA Minnesota April 9-11

A total of 29 Dunwoody College students will be competing this weekend at the Minnesota regional tournament for SkillsUSA in a variety of contests. In addition, Dunwoody College will host the Internetworking Skills Contest at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 10, and the Telecommunications Cabling Contest (also at 8 a.m. Saturday). All contests and the awards ceremony are free and open to the public.

The competitions students will be competing in (plus the number of students participating) are:

Automotive Service Technology (2 , +1 alternate)
Residential Wiring (3)
Industrial Motor Control (3)
Telecommunications Wiring (2)
HVAC (4)
Collision Repair Technology (4)
Architectural Drafting (4)
Quiz Bowl (1 team)
Technical Math (5)
Blueprint Reading (3)

And to Rob Bentz for hosting and judging the Internetworking contest and Phil Yeager for doing the same for the Telecommunications Cabling contest at Dunwoody. Should any Dunwoody students win the state competition, they will compete at the national SkillsUSA competition in June in Kansas City, MO.

Dunwoody College Intern Expo and Print Showcase 2010

On Thursday, Feb. 18, Dunwoody College hosted its Graphics and Printing Technology InternExpo. This event was a reverse job fair where the students are at booths with examples of their work and their resumes and professionals browse the lot to find their next company interns. In conjunction with the InternExpo, Dunwoody hosted the Printing Industry of Minnesota’s (PIM) 2010 Print Showcase from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Decker Auditorium. The Showcase brought together printers, designers, print buyers, paper companies and advertisers to discuss latest on print, paper and finishing. 4:15 – 4:45 p.m. — Session: Turning Green presented by Paul Gutkowski, PIM Director of Safety & Environmental Services in the Holden Center

ASRO (packaging and robotics) students compete at PACK EXPO

Dunwoody ASRO (packaging and robotics) students are competing at PACK EXPO this week in Las Vegas. And they’re in excellent company — they’re competing against students from: Cal Poly, Rutgers, Clemson, Purdue, and the University of Florida.

Allan Zimney won a Gold in Collision Repair (College).

The Quiz Bowl team took Bronze (College). The members of the team are: Jim Stenstrom, Phill DeLeeuw, Matt Barlau, Eric Uzpen, and Jason MacKinnon

Joe Provo competed in Residential Wiring (High School Division) and scored well but did not place.
