The Career
When a vehicle is involved in a collision, damage to multiple systems on
the vehicle can occur. Technicians must have current training in order to
diagnose and repair modern vehicles. That means highly trained collision
repair professionals are in greater demand than ever. And because Dunwoody
teaches the highest industry standards, those skills are transferable to
anywhere in the country.
The Program
The Automotive Collision Apprenticeship Program (ACAP) is designed to allow students to take Dunwoody classes in the evenings, (5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday), allowing them to work during the day. Dunwoody’s programs utilize I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) training materials, and all Dunwoody instructors are certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and are I-CAR Gold professionals. The Program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). ACAP Students use specialized tools, materials and techniques to straighten or replace damaged body panels and structural components as well as perform collision related mechanical and electrical repairs. Students will also learn the latest techniques for partial and complete refinishing of an automobile.
Program Length
The length of the ACAP program varies as follows:
ACAP option 1 is a three year program and includes all of the Collision repair and refinishing courses available at Dunwoody; ACAP Option 2 is a two year program that is designed to train students to become an Automotive Collision Repair Technician; ACAP option 3 is a two year program designed to prepare the learner for becoming a refinish technician.
