Degree Seeking Students

Applicants who are graduates of accredited high schools (or hold a recognized equivalent such as the General Educational Development [GED] Test) must show by their academic record, Dunwoody admission test scores, and entrance interview that they are adequately prepared to do satisfactory work in the program they have selected.

To be successful at Dunwoody, students must understand and apply basic operations in mathematics; read and comprehend technical manuals, instruction sheets, textbooks, references, and other materials; and effectively communicate their knowledge to instructors and to other students. Varying levels of algebra, geometry and trigonometry are required for specific programs.

The Dunwoody admission tests measure quantitative skills, verbal skills, and cognitive abilities. These test scores are compared to industry norms and are used as an indicator of academic preparedness and the ability to succeed in the academic environment. In general, successful applicants are familiar with basic arithmetic operations, decimals, fractions, ratios, percentages, basic algebraic formulas, basic geometry, sentence and paragraph structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Applicants with limitations in math or communication skills, as evidenced by previous school records or test scores, may be asked to satisfactorily complete preparatory courses before their applications will be considered.

Admission Procedures

Dunwoody Application

Applicants for the degree or diploma programs must submit a Dunwoody application form. This can be obtained by calling the Admissions office at 612-374-5800 or 1-800-292-4625. Online applications are available at www.dunwoody.edu.

Application Fee

A $50 application fee covers the cost of processing the application and administering the admission tests, which are administered once fee is received. Fee is refundable upon written request only if the applicant is not accepted.

High School Transcript

In addition to high school transcripts, applicants must provide any transcripts from technical schools, colleges or other post-secondary schools. If submitting a GED certification, copies of verification paperwork and test scores should be enclosed.

Once Dunwoody receives all 3 items, applicants receive an invitation to tour the facilities, interview with an Admissions Counselor and take the Dunwoody admission tests.

Notification

Once these 3 items are received, applicants are normally notified of their application status within one week. Applications may be accepted, rejected or held until certain conditions are met.

Enrollment

All accepted students are sent an Enrollment Notice confirming enrollment terms and conditions. The Enrollment Notice must be returned with a $100 tuition deposit by the date specified in the Notice. Then a place in the class of your preference is reserved and enrollment is complete.

Class openings are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Delay in returning the Notice and deposit could result in loss of placement in a desired class or program.

Final Approval

The Enrollment Notice does not constitute a contract until approved by an official of Dunwoody. The Notice's date of execution is to be the postmarked date. Or, if faxed or hand-delivered, the date it arrives at Dunwoody. If Dunwoody does not accept the Notice, the applicant is notified in writing and the paid tuition deposit is refunded.

When to Apply

High school students are urged to submit applications early in their senior year for best assurance of admission in the fall quarter following their graduation. Out-of-school adult students may apply at any time and may often begin training on short notice, depending upon mid-year starting dates.

Re-Admission

Students with a break in continuous enrollment pay a $10 re-admission application fee and complete an Application for Re-admission for each re-enrollment. The Application for Re-admission must then be signed by an Admissions Counselor and the appropriate Department Director. Student files are reviewed by the Admissions Review Committee before the student may be granted re-admission.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition Deposit

After acceptance by Dunwoody, the applicant must complete and return an Enrollment Notice and pay a $100.00 tuition deposit to reserve a place in the class. The deposit is credited to the student’s tuition costs for the program. The student’s enrollment is not considered complete until the signed Enrollment Notice has been returned and the tuition deposit has been paid. The tuition deposit is non-refundable but, in the event of cancellation of enrollment, may be applied to an alternate starting date within one year of the original planned starting date.

Credit Course Tuition and Late Fees

Dunwoody’s tuition is charged by the individual course. The number of individual courses taken each quarter determines the total tuition. For more information on course tuition, contact an Admissions Counselor or the Student Records Office in the Pinska Student Services Center.

Tuition is due by 2:30 PM on the first day of each quarter. If tuition is not paid in full by the end of the sixth day of the quarter, a late fee of $100. Students may not register for the following quarter and transcripts and other school information will not be released until all charges are paid in full. All late fees are non-refundable. Failure to pay tuition and fees are grounds for dismissal from school.

All federal, state and institutionally-funded financial aid awards and loans are applied to charges for the quarter before any distribution is made to the student. Financial aid and veterans funding disbursement dates vary, and it is the student’s responsibility to have the necessary funds to pay charges by the first day of each quarter.

Dunwoody contributes to the cost of a student’s education with invested funds contributed by William Hood Dunwoody, his wife, Kate Dunwoody, and ongoing contributions from our stakeholders. The Dunwoody Board of Trustees determines the tuition rate for the next academic year by February 1. The new rate becomes effective at the start of the summer quarter.

Activity Fee

Students will be charged a non-refundable activity fee of $10 per quarter. This fee is used to help fund student activities and events throughout the school year. The current activity fee is stated in the Tuition and Fees brochure.

Books and Supplies

Tuition and fees include the use of many necessary tools and supplies. Students provide pencils, paper, notebooks, some tools and other incidental items. In addition, students may be required to purchase other books, reference manuals, tools, supplies, personal health and safety equipment and/or clothing. This includes, but is not limited to, safety glasses, shoes or other safety-related personal protection items.

Classroom textbook sets, laboratory manuals, small tools and test equipment are available in the Dunwoody Bookstore. Contact an Admissions Counselor or the Financial Aid Office for an estimate of the cost of books and supplies.

Some departments may charge an additional course fee or require a deposit for parts kits, tools or reference materials. The deposit will be refunded when the items are returned in good condition.

Non-Credit and Special Courses

Students enrolled for special instruction in selected courses will pay fees determined prior to enrollment, depending on the nature and duration of training.
