Dunwoody College Events
Update on Team BAJA:
The team had an exciting weekend competing for the first time in the BAJA SAE, held in the desert in California. E.J. Daigle, Academic Dean, joined the team offering this report:
Thursday:
They successfully completed engine technical inspection.
Friday:
Friday was an awesome day! The team overcame a small frame concern with Sam showing off his welding skills in the pits. They also overcame a fuel splash guard issue by fabricating a new one onsite. Overall, the team successfully completed 3 additional technical inspections; 4X4, braking and overall technical. This is a BIG DEAL! Only 20 or so teams out of the 53 have fully completed technical inspection. This allowed the team to take a few rounds on the test track late in the afternoon.
Saturday:
The team was able to jump right into several challenges on Saturday. They competed in the Acceleration, Maneuverability, and Suspension & Traction Challenges. During the suspension and traction challenge the car dipped hard into one of the moguls and broke several front suspension components. The vehicle was towed back to the pits with about five hours to make eight hours of repairs. Watching the teamwork displayed by this group was incredible. In true Dunwoody form, they worked together to disassemble the front end, fabricate two new A-arms and one new frame member, bleed brakes, aligned wheels, and completely reassembled the front end. The team made it through inspection with 15 minutes to spare and were gridded #37 for the endurance race on Sunday.
Sunday:
The endurance race was crazy. The course broke several cars on just the first lap. Dunwoody broke hard after 3 total laps. 61 total teams at the competition this year and Dunwoody finished 46th.

We have alumni all over the country and it warms our hearts to have them back on campus whenever we can. Yesterday we welcomed a group of alumni we call the 50 Year Club, each having graduated in 1974 or earlier. It was exciting to hear all the stories from when they were students, and even to hear stories of multi-generational family members attending Dunwoody.

Dunwoody Names Next President
Dunwoody College of Technology, a leader in hands-on technical education, has named Scott Stallman, Ph.D., to succeed Rich Wagner, Ph.D., as the next President of Dunwoody. Stallman, who is currently the College’s Provost, will begin his role as President in July 2024.
